QIS TrainingThe Quality Indicator Survey (QIS) is a complex process, requiring thorough education to ensure proper use for quality improvement in nursing facilities. With our staff of experienced instructors, many of whom also train the state surveyors, Nursing Home Quality is committed to providing expert education to providers in the use of the QIS tools and procedures. We offer a number of educational programs to suit the needs of providers, which are described below. 1-Day Basic CourseThe 1-Day Basic Course details the QIS process used by state surveyors and teaches providers how the QIS tools and procedures can be used in their own quality assurance and improvement programs. This program is an ideal introduction to the Quality Indicator Survey for everyone in your facility including administrators, directors of nursing, social workers, nurse managers, dietary managers, activities managers, and consultants. Led by Nursing Home Quality QIS instructors, this course includes a general orientation and introduction to the QIS process, as well as a comparison of the QIS with the traditional survey process. The course also provides instruction on the use of CMS QIS forms and procedures for Stage 1, Facility Tasks, and Stage 2 investigation. Course registrants will receive guidance on how the QIS forms and procedures can be used by nursing facilities in their ongoing quality assurance efforts. 1-Day Intermediate TrainingThis program builds on the 1-Day Basic Course by providing a detailed exploration of the ways in which nursing facilities can utilize the QIS tools, protocols, and concepts in their ongoing quality assurance efforts. Course registrants will learn practical, effective techniques for developing continuous survey readiness. Throughout the course, illustrative resident scenarios are used as a framework for in-depth discussion of the use of the QIS for quality assurance purposes. Utilizing these case scenarios, the morning session focuses on QIS Stage 1 assessment scoring and result interpretation, and the afternoon session delves into the use of Stage 2 investigation protocols for targeting quality assurance efforts. During the afternoon, students are given the option of selecting one of two tracks -- Quality of Care or Quality of Life -- each of which focuses on issues emphasized under the QIS. The Nursing Home Quality 1-Day Basic Course is a prerequisite for the 1-Day Intermediate Course 2-Day Practicum TrainingTake the next step in QIS education with our 2-Day Practicum. To obtain findings consistent with the intent of the QIS process, the QIS survey procedures must be utilized in the Stage 1 preliminary investigative process. The 2-Day Practicum provides individualized instruction in the QIS method, hands-on field instruction in an actual facility, and immersion in the application of the QIS process according to QIS protocols. Participants will receive instruction on the use of Nursing Home Quality's web-based Quality Assurance System, abaqis, as a method to analyze Stage 1 assessments and determine if thresholds are exceeded, thus triggering a Stage 2 investigation and increasing the possibility of citation. Upon completion of the 2-Day Practicum, registrants will have received guidance on the implementation of a comprehensive quality assurance system within their own facilities. The Nursing Home Quality 1-Day Basic Course is a prerequisite for the 2-Day Practicum 4-Day Intensive TrainingBecome a highly trained QIS specialist within your company by participating in our most in-depth QIS course. During Nursing Home Quality's 4-Day Intensive Course, attendees work closely with an instructor and under their coaching and supervision conduct QIS Stage 1 assessments including interviews with residents, families, and staff, as well as census and admission chart reviews. Participants will receive instruction on use of QIS as a core quality assurance system that can be used in their facility on an ongoing basis to achieve continuous survey readiness. Students will be instructed in Stage 2 in-depth investigation processes used during the QIS survey. The Nursing Home Quality 1-Day Basic Course is a prerequisite for the 4-Day Intensive Course
